America Gatluak Puot Well died on Saturday, October 12, 2013, after an auto accident. America was a wonderful, beautiful young man who left us much too soon. He had a contagious smile and an even more contagious personality. From his perfect white teeth down to his size 16 feet, he was loved by a long list of family members and friends. America shared himself with us and made us all feel that we were special to him. He had a talent for making friends. America entertained us and made us laugh; delivering the morning announcements in high school, dancing and hamming it up for the camera, posting his favorite song lyrics online, and his favorite, dunking the basketball to cheers of "U. S. A!!" His favorite holiday was the 4th of July because every time someone tweeted "God Bless America", he replied, "Thank You." There are not words to express, nor space to write what he meant to all of us. At the time of his death, America was living in Boone, Iowa. He was attending college and working at Godfather's Pizza. America loved his mother and father, and his grandmother, as well as his Sudanese community.

America leaves behind a long list of family and friends, who all had an important place in his life. He is survived by his brother, Brad Berg (Buomkouth Gatluak Puot Well), his adoptive mother, Laura Berg (Char Skovlund), his father Daniel Gatluak Puot Well, and is preceded in death by his mother, Nyageng Bath Lam. He is also survived by girlfriend, Kati Majava.

America touched the lives of so many others; the Skovlund Family, the Berg Family, the Majava Family, Bert Kayser, Kelly and Steve Bitler, Stacey Herbster, and Karen Dover. America also leaves behind an extensive Sudanese Family and community here in the U.S. and in Nasir Malkal in the Upper Nile region of South Sudan.
