Catherine Laramore Smith, age 93, died October 11, 2013, at Presbyterian Village of Homer. Catherine was born in Texarkana, Texas, on June 2, 1920. She came to Homer as a bride in 1938.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. M. and Hazel Embree Laramore; her husband, J. J. "Jack" Smith, a former Claiborne Parish Clerk of Court; and three brothers, James M. Laramore, William L. Laramore, and John R. Laramore.

Her survivors include a daughter, Beverly E. Smith of Homer; a son, Jackson L. Smith of Carmel, CA; and a granddaughter, Leanna Helene Jakob-Smith of Soquel, CA. She is also survived by four siblings, Martha L. Cox of Albuquerque, NM; Dr. Rosemary Laramore of Salem, OR; Dr. Charles B. Laramore of Keithville, LA; and C. Duane Laramore of Branson, MO. Other special relatives include her nieces Patty S. Johnson of Nixa, MO, and Londa L. Cohen of Bakersfield, CA, and cousins Dian Anderson of Vicksburg, MS, and Dr. Larry J. Embree of Shreveport, LA.

Her abiding interests were her work at the Claiborne Abstract Co. and the Claiborne Parish Chapter of the DAR. She was actively involved in management at Claiborne Abstract until her 93rd birthday. On weekdays, she climbed a flight of 22 stairs to "come to work."

The family wishes to thank Drs. D. K., Scott and Mark Haynes, and the staffs of Homer Memorial Hospital, Presbyterian Village of Homer, and Regional Hospice of Northwest Louisiana for their kind and compassionate care. Thanks also to Margaret G. Bays for many years of next-door-neighbor thoughtfulness.

Services are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Rose-Neath's Homer Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. John McClelland, Rev. Pat Bates, and Rev. Brian Thurman. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, at Rose-Neath in Homer.

For those sending memorials, the family suggests the Herbert S. Ford Museum in Homer or the charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers.
