Robert Schmall, 67, a retired Wasilla mechanic, died Feb. 16 at Valley Hospital in Palmer. A private family memorial service was held. Mr. Schmall was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Tacoma, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1945, and from 1947 to 1950. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed, and later served as a paratrooper and staff sergeant in the antiaircraft section. He lived in Anchorage from 1960 to 1970, when he moved to Wasilla. Mr. Schmall worked as a mechanic at Bob's Beetle Shop in Anchorage from 1960 to 1973. He was then employed at Dodge Electric in Palmer. He returned to work at The Beetle Shop until his retirement in 1984. Last year he worked as a custodian at the Wasilla Senior Center. He leaves his wife, Kathryn, of Wasilla; his daughter, Ruth Teremi, of Wasilla; and his sons, Philip and Dennis Vincent, both of Wasilla; his brother, Roy, of San Diego; his sister, Marie Rea, of Escondido, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Memorial Chapel.
