MOS: 0301 Basic Infantry Officer.
Alexander arrived in Vietnam 11 December 1967 and was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
Kilo Company was ambushed by hostile forces in an area known as Valentine Ridge, about 3 kilometers south southwest f Ca Lu Airfield.
Capt Ward was wounded by shrapnel to the neck area from a hostile grenade and was med-evac. He died of his wounds that he sustained 14th of February, at the Naval Hospital in Danang.
Survived by his wife, Sharon G Ward, his son; Alexander Jr and daughter; Dawn M Ward all of Oceanside, CA.
His parents, Rear Admiral Norvell G Ward & Elizabeth K Ward and his sister; Elizabeth A Ward of San Francisca,CA and his 2 brothers; William H Ward of Kenosha,WS and Norvell G Ward Jr.
He was the son of United States Navy Rear Admiral Norvell G. Ward.
