Gerald served his country during World War Ii as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. Following his service he was employed by Hugh Grey Hosiery Mill.
He was a avid sportsman enjoying fishing, hunting and giving a home to Purple Martins. For several years he produced his own wine and had a great garden from which he gave vegetables to friends and neighbors. Even in retirement he continued to cut the hair of friends, using a barber chair in his basement.
Gerald and his wife Bernice were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church. They were married for 57 years at the time of his death. He was the father of a daughter Diane and a son David and their children.
