He was born August 7, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Edwin Joseph and Martha (Grega) Grosskurth. He was raised in the south suburbs of Chicago and graduated from St. Willibrord High School.
Gerald joined the Illinois State Police on July 9, 1957 as a trooper assigned to District 4 (then) in Crestwood. He was drafted into the United States Army, following his discharge, he returned to the state police where he worked for 29.48 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant on December 31, 1986.
After retirement, he worked as an investigator for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
Gerry was united in marriage to Gail Marion on September 1, 1996 in Des Plaines. They moved to Huntley in 2000. During his retirement years, he enjoyed time with family, fitness and walking, Notre Dame Football, old time radio and was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gail of Huntley, his siblings, Gayle (Albert) Simnick & Richard (Virginia) Grosskurth of Dyer, Indiana; Phyllis Grosskurth and Janet (William) Noonan of Calumet City, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Grosskurth of Crown Point, Indiana; his step-children, Jeffrey (Diane) Marion of Traverse City, Michigan, Lisa (Roy) Kauffman of Elgin & David (Janet) Marion of Palatine, 10 step-grandchildren, Brad, Corrine, Alex, Taylor, Rebecca, Samuel, Carol, Sarah, Grace & Olivia. Many nieces, nephews and friends survive.
Gerry preceded in death by his father (1972), mother (1996) and brother, Philip J. Grosskurth (June 1, 2013).
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 19th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
