Lesley became an England International Polo Player - some consider him one of the greatest 'English players' ever. He was a Captain in the King's Dragoon Guards Regiment. During World War I, whilst attached to the Queen's Own Worcestershire Regiment, he was killed in action in Palestine, on Easter Sunday, 23rd April 1916, commanding a squadron of the Worcestershire Yeomanry. He was aged 33. His death is also commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial in modern day Israel.
