Alexandra J. Forbes, 92, formerly of Marco Island, Fla., passed away peacefully at Grafton House in St. Augustine, Fla., on Aug. 29, 2014.

Alex was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. As a young university student, she suffered Nazi occupation of her beloved homeland and later survived Allied bombing as the war ended. She met her American G.I. husband, Ryder, at the end of the war and began a fascinating life in the U.S. Foreign Service when Ryder started work at the U.S. Embassy in Prague after being discharged from the U.S. Army. They raised their family while enjoying tours of duty in Rome; Trieste; and Venice, Italy; followed by Helsinki, Finland; Winnipeg, Canada; Curacao; Netherlands Antilles; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Kingston, Jamaica; and finally Hong Kong, China.

In 1975, they retired to Marco Island, Fla., where Alex received her real estate license and enjoyed working in this field for many years. Her ability to speak several languages made her very useful with the international demand for real estate in the Naples, Marco Island market.

Alexandra was an avid tennis player and snow skier in her younger years, as she was a golfer and swimmer in her later years. She loved classical symphony and ballet as well as live theater.

Alexandra was predeceased by her husband, Ryder, in 1989 and her son, Martin, in June of this year. She is survived by her sister, Olga (Vasek) of Hofheim, Germany; her son, Phillip (Irene) of St. Augustine; and her grandchildren, Jennifer of Wisconsin, Alexander (Monica) and Daniel (Natalie) of St. Augustine and great-granddaughter, Leila.

A private service will be held in her beloved Marco Island, Fla., at a later date, where she will finally rest in peace once again with Ryder.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer"s Foundation of America.

Craig Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Park is in charge of the arrangements.
