John was the son of Luther Miller and Abi Peck. On 10 Jun 1879 he married Matilda Brandt and they had eight children: Laura Abi, John Edward, Lulu August, Lillie Belle, Jesse B., Alice Maude, Frank Brandt and Frederick F. John was a retired carpenter but at various times he had also been a painter, builder, and a worker in a confectionery. He died of heart disease.
