George Dusold was born near Bamberg, Bavaria (obit) in 1823, the son of Johann and Maria Margareta ("Power", the maiden name listed on her death record in The US, certainly an anglicization)Dussold. George first came to the United States in 1848, but then returned for his wife and mother soon after. The whole family arrived via the "Stefani" out of Bremen in 1851. He was married 1st to Kunigunda Hoffman, who died in 1874. He married 2nd Mrs. Katherine (Hahn) Steinmacher, who survived him, and died in 1906, she is buried with her daughter Emelie (Steinmacher) Shean and family in St. Michael's Cemetery. His children with Kunigunda were George, John, Augusta (Minnie) and Otto, only Otto survived him. His two sons George and John died in childhood, Augusta (Minnie) married John McKecnie, and then died in 1886. Otto removed to New York City, and after his funeral George's body was removed to that place and cremated. It is stored in The Fresh Pond Crematorium there. He was an early and prominent member of The Springfield German community, owning both a reputable boarding house and a well respected shoemaker shop.
