Captain Barrow was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 111th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 136th Fighter Bomber Group. On February 3, 1952, while on a combat mission of bombing enemy targets, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire, crashed and burst into flames. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on February 15, 1952.

Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
