This memorial is a CENOTAPH. Private First Class Archer is buried HERE in Luxembourg American Cemetery.


Son of Maude Everett and Charles Archer. He married Alta Mae Matthews on 20 Sep 1940 in Greensboro.

He entered the U.S. Army on 21 Apr 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. The Greensboro Daily News, September 30, 1944, provided the following article regarding his death:

--Mrs. Ralph a. Archer, of 1153 Battleground avenue, last night received a message from the war department that her husband, Pvt. Ralph A. Archer, 20, was killed in action in France on September 9.
--Native of Greensboro and graduate of Senior high school, Private Archer had been in the service about a year and a half, being overseas for a year, much of his military training having been received in England.
--Prior to enlisting, he was with Wright Clothing company, High Point. he was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.
--In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Archer, 1153 Battleground avenue; three brothers, Sgt. John W. Archer, Ft. Myers, Fla., and Pfc. David W. Archer, now in France, who was wounded in action sometime ago but has recuperated, and Charles E. Archer, Miami, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Charles White, Greensboro; Mrs. Jack W. Wright, and Mrs. Robert M. Cline both of High Point, and Mrs. Ward J. Burgess, Greensboro.
