GOUVERNEUR --- Funeral services for M. Irene Absalon , 73, of California Road, Fowler, will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Burr Green Funeral Home, the Rev. Richard C. McCaughey, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Gouverneur, Officiating. Burial will be in Hailesboro Cemetery.
Calling hours will be this afternoon and evening at the funeral home.
Mrs, Absalon died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 19, 1983) at the E. J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur.
Surviving are two sons, John J., Jr. and Durwood D. of Hailesboro; a daughter, Mrs. George (Sharon) Yerdon of California Road, Fowler; four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Ione) Cole of Talcville, Mrs. Elmer ( Coraline)
Church of Watertown, Mrs. Thelma Lutz of Wegatchie, and Mrs. Ersel Reed of Fine; Five brothers Walter Hitchman of DeKalb Junction, Jack Hitchman of Madison Heights, VA, David Hitchman of Richville, Loran Hitchman of Norfolk, and Lee Hitchman of Star Lake. She is predeceased by a son, Donald, who died in an automobile accident in Missouri on august of 1951; and a sister, Lelta Whiteford.
Mrs. Absalon was born on May 19, 1909 in Macomb, the daughter of John and Ida Dodds Hitchman.
She married John J. Absalon at the Gouverneur Methodist Parsonage on 1922.
The couple lived in the town of Fowler all of their married life. Mr. Absalon was highway superintendent for the town for 34 years. He died on June 18, 1970.
Mrs. Absalon wa a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Gouverneur.
