On April 17, 1942, Eldon enlisted in the U.S. Army. He fought in many battles in Europe and in Africa. On June 12, 1944, Eldon was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He served his country with pridem and whiler overseas fighting in the Battle of the Bulge his father died. he was Honorable discharged on June 27, 1945.
On May 26, 1946, Eldon was united in marriage to Ruby Sasse at christ Lutheran Church, North of Gaylord, Ks. Th this union, two daughters Janet Marie and Linda Kay were born.
