Joan M. Nelson, age 80, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 20, 1932, in Ashland, the daughter of Joseph and Jesse (Colyar) Barany.
She graduated from Ondossagon High School, in 1950 and married Donald F Nelson on February 6, 1958. Joan worked as an administrative assistant for Larson Juhl, in Ashland.
She is survived by six children, Linda Staiger, Ashland, Donald Reed, Superior, Terry Nelson, Ashland, Brett Nelson, Tucson, AZ, Kim (Mark) Holst, Omaha, NE and Traci (Greg) Newhouse, Ashland; 10 grandchildren, Billy, Anthony, Travis, Lyndsay, Crystie, Eric, Daniel, Alex, Molly and Samantha; a great-granddaughter, Ella; three siblings, Judy Chingo, Jean Guy and Joe Barany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on March 25, 2012.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are by Frost Home for Funerals, in Ashland.
