Aileen Augustine Fordice, the mother of Mississippi Gov. Kirk Fordice, died of cardiac arrest Tuesday night at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. She was 92.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memorial Park.
She had been living at a retirement center in Memphis for several years.
The governor, a native of Memphis, was in New York attending a convention of the paper industry when his mother died.
His office said he left Wednesday for Memphis and would skip a Republican Governors Association meeting he had been scheduled to attend later this week in Washington.
Mrs. Fordice, the widow of Daniel Kirkwood Fordice, also leaves a daughter, Grace Fordice Holt of Monticello, Ark.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association.
