Bessie was a young woman living on her father's farm at Hankinson ND when she met Carl who was working with a threshing team. They began their courtship and when Bessie turned 18, Carl sent her to ladies finishing school at Redwing. MN. After completing her courses, they married (11-9-1909) and opened an automobile business in Calgary Alberta Canada with Carl's brother Tom. (Tom married Bessie's sister 'Nettie') WWI forced their return to the USA where they remained. They lived in Minneapolis MN and Texas before settling in ND. Bessie spent many years as a mid-wife and a nurse. She was intelligent, strong, gentle, loving, devoted and the respected matriarch of the family. She instilled in her family what it means to be a good steward of people. She was dearly loved and is still missed by us all.
