Johann Phillip Andre was born on September 13, 1813 in Lampertheim, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt. His father Johann Andrae b1780 was 33 and his mother Eva Pfeiffer was just 17. He had two daughters with Anna Maria 'Mary' Steffan and two sons in Hessen, which are listed below. 0ne daughter Katherine died as an Infant in Germany at age 2, the other Elizabeth married a George Seiler & she passed on in 1903. Johann immigrated to America in May 1844, arriving on these shores on May 31st of that year. John & Mary lived out their lives in Chillicothe, Ohio. His 0ccupation was listed as carpenter on the 1860 census, however His 0ccupation was listed on the 1870 census as that of a Market Gardner, no doubt raising vegetables for sale in the community. He went by the name Philip on these census records. he was neighbors with the Wetzel & Griesheimer families to which he was related by marriage to Anna Maria. He passed away shortly after on Sep 14, 1871 in Scioto Twp, Ross Co, Ohio at the age of 58 and was laid to rest in this cemetery. His wife Mary lived on until 1895, then was laid to rest beside him. Interestingly he was born the same year as this writers G/grandfather Adam Steffan born Sep 3rd just ten days earlier, younger brother to Phillip's wife Anna Maria.
