TEXAS SENATE RESOLUTION 331
March 13, 1997
In Memory of Pierce Alexander Hoggett

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Junction in mourning the untimely passing of one of the city's most esteemed civic leaders, Pierce Alexander "Dynamite" Hoggett, who died February 19, 1997, at the age of 63; and

WHEREAS, In all his personal endeavors, the respected gentleman devoted his life to helping others achieve success in their lives, and his death will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him; and

WHEREAS, The beloved son of well-known ranchers Marguerite Wright and Pierce A. Hoggett, Pierce was born in Junction on February 14, 1934; he spent his childhood in Kerrville, where he began a lifelong passion for roping and dancing; one of his proudest accomplishments was winning the state high school roping contest; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Southwest Texas State University, Pierce Hoggett continued his education at The University of Texas, where he earned his law degree; upon passing the bar exam, he became a practicing attorney with his uncle, Coke Stevenson; later, he began a long career in banking when he decided to enter the field of estate planning; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his adult life, Mr. Hoggett gave generously of his time and energies to his community through his work on numerous boards and committees; during the time he was a resident of San Angelo, Pierce served as president of the board for both Crime Stoppers and the Institute of Cognitive Development; he was also a member of the Junction City Lodge Number 548; and

WHEREAS, Recognized for his leadership abilities and contributions to his profession, Pierce Hoggett was admired for his dedication to the citizens of his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: his son, Derrick Hoggett; his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Larry McMillan; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Rosemary Hoggett; and his three grandchildren, Jason, Laramie, and Kailey; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pierce Alexander "Dynamite" Hoggett.
