After a long illness Ron passed away at the age of 73. He was the son of Harry Roscoe Sumner and Martha Elizabeth Altmeyer Sumner Rose. The brother of Sharon Sumner Fields. He was the uncle of three and the great uncle of three. He was preceded in death by his mother (Martha Elizabeth Sumner Rose), father (Harry Roscoe Sumner), and stepfather (Paul E. Rose), all of whom are listed at findagrave. Ron was married to Frances McWhorter. Frances was a loving and devoted wife.

Ron had served in the Navy and was on a ship enforcing the blockade of Cuba in October, 1962. During this Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders of the U.S. and the Soviet Union engaged in a tense, 13-day political and military standoff over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba, just 90 miles from U.S. shores.

Ron has been proven to be a 4th greatgrandson of a Revolutionary War soldier (Robert Thomas Bedwell, born 1759, Delaware - died 1842, Sullivan Co., IN). Robert is buried in Moody Cemetery, Sullivan County, IN., and is listed on findagrave.

A special thank you to Rhonda Poyner for sponsoring my brother's memorial.
