Henry Roscoe Shade, 85, of 406 W. Delaware, U. died at 8 pm Monday, Sept. 26, 1966 at Mercy Hospital, following a long illness. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday at the Renner Chapel, with Rev. Dean Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Shade was born Nov. 1, 1880 in Bloomington, son of John and Rebecca Bower Shade. He married Mary A. Thornburn Dec. 24, 1906. He is survived by his widow; one son, Richard N. of Rockton; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Betty) Grace of Urbana and Geneva F. Shade of Harvey; seven grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death. Mr. Shade was a prominent breeder of Holstein cattle and Duroc hogs in the area for many years. He founded the Shadeland Dairy Co., and after his retirement from farming was associated with Beatrice Food Co. He was a former county supervisor, a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of American Colonists, the Champaign-Urbana Colonists, the Champaign-Urbana Christian Businessmen's Committee and was former treasurer of the Gideons of East Central Illinois. He was a charter member of the Twin City Bible Church and the University of Illinois chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. (News Gazette Sept. 27, 1966)
