NEW ALBANY – Shelby Glenn Elder Portis, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Feb. 15, 1939, in New Albany to J.R. and Mary Richey Elder. She was a member of Keownville Baptist Church. She was retired.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Terry Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Keownville Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Portis; five daughters, Pam Smithey Futato of New Albany, Sharon Smithey Whiteside of Tupelo, Teresa Smithey Cannon of New Albany, Karen "Tweety" Davis of Pontotoc and Rebecca Austin of New Albany; one brother, Wendell Elder (Linda) of New Albany; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Shirley Elder White; and one brother, Waymon Elder.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
