Miss Rail notes that her information came from Buchanan Funeral Home records (Clifford Bayless, informant; burial October 21, 1914.) Date of birth was calculated from age at death (62 years, 3 months, 1 day.)

Washington State Death Records state that John's parents were E. C. Bayless and Dalias Good.

Contributor #47418596 has suggested that Mr. Bayless's date of birth was July 18, 1854 rather than 1852, and that he died in Spokane City. No sources were provided, and I could find no confirmation.

The contributor has also suggested that John was the son of Asa Bayless (1813-1893) and Delilah Bayless (1816-1896.) Again, no sources were provided. I found that Bayless family living in Tennessee at the time of the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census enumerations; they had in their household a boy named "John S. M. Bayless," who was born circa 1853 and who might have been their son.

That John Bayless (Tennessee native and son of Asa and Delilah,) seems to have married Belle Cochran (born circa 1866 in Indiana) circa 1893. At the time of the 1900 U.S. Census the couple lived in Calapooia, Douglas, Oregon, with their young son, John Timmons Bayless. The 1910 Census shows Belle (now a widow) and son John living in Deer Creek, Douglas, Oregon with Belle's widowed mother.

I am not at all convinced that the Tennessee native John S. M. Bayless is the same person as the John Bayless buried at Greenwood. The parents' given names are similar, but not the same; the maiden name shown on Mrs. Bayless's memorial is "Good," but that name is not on her grave and her memorial gives no indication of its source; and, Tennessee-John seems to have died before 1910, whereas the gentleman buried at Greenwood lived until 1914.
