to a cancer in the breast, the most
painful of all diseases. After it had
baffled the utmost efforts of human skill,
she died on the ninth day of December, 1798, aged 30 yrs.
Passion and pride were to her soul unknown
Convinced that nature only is our own
So unaffected, so composed in mind
So firm yet so strong yet so refined.
Heaven as its purest gold by torture tried
The saint sustained it but the woman died.
