She was married as the 1st wife of Leonard Ambrose Gillihan (1902–1965) on January 4, 1925 at Blakmore Church in Nashville, and he was the son of John Harvey Gillihan (1875–1936) and Cornelia Jane (Williams) Gillihan (1883–1963).
Living at 1108 Stainback Avenue in Nashville, Davidson County, Ernestine was 23 years old and married when she had a therapeutic abortion at Protestant Hospital on April 7, 1931 and died two days later. Burial was on April 11th in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
