During the lean depression years, Ted worked as a farmhand as well as delivering coal. He eventually was employed at General Electric Company as a security guard, retiring in 1969 after 28 years of service.

He married (1) Eva Alice Towns, Nov. 1928; married(2) Marion Curtiss Batchelor, July 1962, daughter of Gorman Courtney Batchelor and Anna Esther (Curtiss) Batchelor-Anibal.
