Son of James Asbury Emmons, Sr. and Mary Martha (Pipkin).
1st married Susannah Atkins April 26, 1857 in Freestone County by Rev. George Harrison. She died young. They had 3 children: William R., James Henry, and Mittie.
2nd marriage was to Meremiah Elizabeth "Liza" Webb on Nov. 30, 1871 in Freestone County, TX. They are thought to have have had 2 children: Edgar (NFI) and Rebecca Ezra Emmons who married Chap Terry.
Mr. Emmons 2nd wife then married George William "Will" Dunbar on Nov. 20, 1881 after the death of J.A.Emmons, Jr.
She went on to have four more children. One was Alice who married Rev. Elijah Judson Browne.

A.J. Emmons, age 23, is listed in Waul's Legion, Co. B, 2nd INF Battalion. This is thought to be Andrew Jackson "Jack" Emmons.

(The information about A.J. Emmons burial location comes from Margaret Tolar. He is buried in an unmarked grave. He could possibly be buried with his first wife, Susannah Atkins. Her burial location is not known for certain but Harrison Chapel would certainly be a possibility, since they were married by the pastor of Harrison's Chapel and it would be reasonable to assume that they lived in this area. She could also be buried in the Atkins Family Cemetery in Freestone County with her parents.)
