"Mrs. Nelly Butterfield McLaughlin, widow of the late George C. McLaughlin, died at her home, 404 North prospect avenue, about 9 o'clock this morning following an illness of four weeks. Mrs. McLaughlin suffered a paralytic stroke four weeks ago and had since been bedfast at her home. She was born in Piqua, Ohio, November 30, 1858. March 24, 1881 she was married to Mr. McLaughlin at Piqua, who at the time was in the furniture business in Sedalia. Mr. McLaughlin was one of the organizers of the present McLaughlin Furniture Company. He died in July 1915. Eight children were born to this union and six survive; Mrs. R. F. Hulland of Hollister Mo., Allan McLaughlin of Kansas City, Edward McLaughlin, residing at 1301 West Third Street, H. C. McLaughlin, of Atlanta, Ga., R. P. McLaughlin of New Haven, Conn., and Kenneth McLaughlin of the home address. Two daughters preceded their mother in death, Mrs. Dustin Wakefield,, who passed away in 1915, and Margaret McLaughlin who died in infancy. Mrs. McLaughlin was a member of the First Episcopal church, Sorosis club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a woman of many fine attributes and in her passing, many loving friends will mourn. Funeral service have not been arranged pending word from her son in New Haven, Conn. The body is at the family home on North Prospect avenue." Sedalia Democrat - Monday, November 9, 1931

"The funeral of Mrs. Nelly Butterfield McLaughlin, widow of the late George McLaughlin, pioneer resident of Pettis County, was held at 10:30 o'clock this morning at the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn A. Baldwin, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Three hymns were sand by a quartet composed of Mrs. C. H. Bard, Mrs. A. H. Bratton, Miss Edna Snell and Mrs. A. R. Beach, accompanied by Paul Zoellig. The hymns, "Holy Spirit Mirthful Guide," "Rock of Ages," and "Abide With Me." Many beautiful floral tributes were sent by her many friends and relative. Pallbearers were Ralph Dow, Sherman Whiprecht, Luke Reed, Ralph Swearingen, Fred Sandfort and Lee Montgomery. Burial was made in Crown Hill cemetery." Sedalia Democrat - Thursday, November 12, 1931
