She was born in Onslow County, NC on September 19, 1936, to the late Odie Bishop Dixon and Emma Elizabeth Marshburn Dixon. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Carl Dixon. Mrs. Covil was a homemaker and avid gardener. She was a woman of strong faith who taught Sunday school to young children for many years and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Covil is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Clarence Covil; two sons, Eddy Covil and wife Frieda of Red Springs, NC and Wayne Covil and wife Pam of Colonial Heights, VA; one daughter, Debbie C. McFarland and husband Richard of Deep River; one brother, Ronald J. Dixon and wife Delora of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Sadie Newman and husband Dave of California; four grandchildren, Daniel McFarland and wife Kalah of Sanford and their daughter Allie, Christopher Boyd and wife Ashley of VA and their son Cody, Michael Boyd and wife Lana of Henderson and their children Nathaniel, Savannah and Logan, and Nikki Locklear and husband Kelly of Wagram and their children Hannah, Kross and Jase.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the atrium of Flat Springs Baptist Church and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary with Dr. Gary McCollough and Rev. Randy Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
