Jefferson Claude "Buck" Irvan, 75, a resident of Seaside for 34 years, died Sunday at Eskaton Monterey Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Paul Mortuary with Rev. Mark Alvis officiating. Burial will be in Mission Memorial Park. He was born on October 8, 1904 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Jane (Stover) Irvan. He was a retired truck driver for Monterey City Sanitation Department. He married Opal Marie Hickey on September 28, 1928 in Alva, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his son, David Irvan, in 1943. He is survived by his wife, Opal; his daughters, Marion Marie Moore of Prunedale and Anita Jean Davi of Pebble Beach; his sons, Vergil Earnest "Vic" Irvan of Concord, North Carolina, Frank Benjamin Irvan of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Cecil Wayne Irvan of Salinas; his sisters, Violet Williamson, Mary Williamson, and Rachel Calley, all of Horatio, Arkansas; his brothers, Lawrence Irvan of DeQueen, Arkansas, and Henry Irvan and Leonard Irvan, both of Horatio, Arkansas; his half sisters, Verna Ashley, Sibyl Young, Della Mae Young, and Evelyn Young; his half brother, Russell Irvan; his step-sister, Frankie Patton; his step-mother, Eva Irvan; seventeen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
