F/O Sweet was killed along with three other crew (P/O T. Howell, Sgt. J.H.N. Lisson, Sgt. L.J. Somerville) when their No.150 Sqn Wellington III BK538 JN-U crashed at RAF Manston after taking off from Kirmington at 1910hrs on the 20th for a mission over Torino. Also on board was Sgt E.O Booth who was injured but survived.
