INDIANAPOLIS — Helen Louise (Butz) Ross, 96, formerly of Anderson, passed away Nov. 24, 2009, at her residence in Indianapolis.

She was born June 2, 1913, in Kendallville, the daughter of Frederick D. and Maude (Williams) Butz, and lived in Anderson most of her life.

She was a graduate of Kendallville High School and IU School of Nursing.

Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Anderson Country Club. She was an avid golfer, playing until she was 88 years of age. She was a member of OLGA, Beaux Arts Club, Victoria Guild and Tri Kappa Sorority. She had volunteered at the Little Red Door and for numerous other organizations.

She is survived by three children, Linda Kay (Ross) Presser of Charlotte, N.C., Thomas Guy Ross of Anderson and Betsy (Ross) Roby and husband, Philip of Carmel; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Whitney (Presser) and Patrick Montoya, Matthew Presser, Michael Presser, Kristen (Roby) and John Dugdale, Angela (Roby) and David Maersch, Jessica (Ross) and Jason Fenwick, Adrienne (Ross) and Robert Henn and Lindsey (Ross) and Larry Shackelford; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Butz) Toombs; brother-in-law, Johnny Free; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Ross, M.D., who died in 1993; sister, Mary Beth Free; brother, Daniel Butz; and her twin brother, Frederick W. Butz.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Terri Coe. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's Children's Clinic or to the American Heart Association.
