Wallace E. Pierce, 90, of Kingston, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1920, in the Ten Mile community of Meigs County to Ernest M. Pierce and Sophia Bell Crowe Pierce.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator with U.S. Deparment of Energy's Y-12 plant and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Kingston, a 50-year member of Union Masonic Lodge 38 F&AM in Kingston and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 900. He was a loving father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Neil Pierce, Rockwood, Robert Pierce and L.D. Pierce, both of Kingston.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Helen Juanita Pierce, Kingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Charles Smith, Kingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Donna Pierce, Kingston; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Pierce, Kingston; six sisters, Imogene Isham, Georgia, Shirley Medley, Florida, Carolyn Koon, Kingston, Peggy Henley, Rockwood, Betty Ladd, Kingston and Kathleen Hensley, Kingston; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with Kenny Plemons officiating.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Kingston, with military honors by the Army National Guard.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, in Evan Mortuary.
