He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, serving from Feb. 28, 1895, to Oct. 10, 1905. He was a sergeant in Co. C 5th Infantry. Mr. Tippy was a member of the First Christian Church. He belonged to Heyde-Pillow Post 1301 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Marion.Clarence C. Tippy, 88, died May 12, 1961 in the Marion VA Hospital. Tippy formerly lived on Rt. 2, Marion, but had been making his home with a niece, Mrs. John Wade, 205 E. Lindell, West Frankfort for the past year. The body was taken to the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Marion, Ill.
