He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, serving from Feb. 28, 1895, to Oct. 10, 1905. He was a sergeant in Co. C 5th Infantry. Mr. Tippy was a member of the First Christian Church. He belonged to Heyde-Pillow Post 1301 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Marion.∼Clarence C. Tippy, 88, died May 12, 1961 in the Marion VA Hospital. Tippy formerly lived on Rt. 2, Marion, but had been making his home with a niece, Mrs. John Wade, 205 E. Lindell, West Frankfort for the past year. The body was taken to the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Marion, Ill.
