CATO — Ruth H. Althouse, 70, of 2160 Mott Road died Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse.
A native of Summit, N.J., Mrs. Althouse had lived in Syracuse before moving to Cato.
She retired in 1987 as director of nursing with the Jewish Home of Central New York, She and her husband, Burr E., owned and operated the Althouse Nursing Home on West Onondaga Street from 1958 to 1972. He died in 1977. Mrs. Althouse was a graduate of the Army Cadet Nursing Corps at Summerset School of Nursing in New Jersey. She was a past matron of Camillus Chapter 438, OES. Surviving are a son, Capt. James E., Fort Campbell, Tenn.; two daughters, Sandra J. of Indianapolis, Ind., and Suzanne A. Doolan of Cato; two brothers, Orville Highbrown of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Charles Highbrown of Royal Palm, Fla.: three sisters, Marion Vryhof of Fairmount and Helen Dayal and Laura Bigness, both of Jordan: and four grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home.
Camillus, the Rev. Earl Eastman officiating. Burial is private. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 10 Genesee St.
Order of the Eastern Star services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
