Carrollton Republican Standard:
Mary Ann Highlands was born in Washington County, Pa., May 11, 1820. When a girl thirteen years old her parents moved to this state and settled in Center tp, Carroll co. In the fall of 1839 she was married to James Taylor, who was killed by a falling tree during a severe thunderstorm, Oct 23, 1841. At the close of 1843 Mrs. Taylor was married to Robert Denney, who died of consumption June 4, 1849. During her first marriage two children were born - Isaac H. and Catharine Taylor. Her union with Robert Denney was blessed with four offspring - James, Elizabeth, Albert and Henry. Of these children Judge Isaac Taylor and Henry Denney alone survive her.

During the greater portion of her life Mrs. Denney lived in Harrison Tp. She was highly respected by her neighbors for her many excellent qualities. In her young womanhood she connected herself with the Disciple church. She was a faithful christian and a good woman. She had the maternal satisfaction of seeing her children filling honorable positions in life. Judge I. H. Taylor occupying the bench of the Common Pleas court and James and Henry Denney serving as treasurer of Carroll co.

Mrs. Denney suffered much from rheumatism. During her last five years she was an invalid. As her physical strength gave way her sufferings became intense. Everything affection prompted was done to relieve the pain and loving hands tenderly ministered to her comfort till the end came. She died Saturday Feb. 24, 1900, in the 80th year of her age. Her burial took place Monday from the residence of her son, Judge Taylor, with whom she made her home for the last two years. Rev. Dr. Shepherd conducted the services. Interment in Grandview.
