OBIT - Obituary newspaper August 30, 1902 issue Tallula Journal:
"DIED -- At his home in Tice, Ill., Monday, August 25, 1902, Reuben Kelsey Winters, aged 83 years, 6 onths and 14 days. The funeral services were held at the Tice M. E. church, at 2:00 pm., Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Theo. Kemp, of Jacksonville, assisted by Elder C. Hall, of Athens. The remains were buried in the Athens Cemetery.
Deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this county, was widely known and respected by all his acquaintances and friends He was engaged for a number of years in the wagon making business in Athens with Joseph WAGONER, and subsequently removed to Tice, where he resided up to the time of his death.
He is survived by his aged wife and five children--Charles W, Mrs. Mary Sill, Mrs Grace Cantrall and Mrs Nettie Quesel, of Kansas, and John winters who resides in Missouri.
He was a kind-hearted Christian gentleman, and had many friends.
May he rest in peace."
