Mrs. Geraldine (Geri) Cranford, 83, of Thomasville passed away on October 31, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
She was born October 05, 1930 in Alexander County to the late William Thomas Alexander and Vivian Johnson Alexander.
Geri Cranford has lived her life for one purpose to glorify God by helping others. A true Christian, she did all the things out of true love for others. Her motivation for helping others was never for personal recognition or acknowledgement which is why she cared for so many people of the Thomasville and High Point. Geri helped to build Africa's Bakava Bible Institute and started the Cranford Memorial Clinic in Kalemie Zaire. She also helped establish The Lamb Center Orphanage in the Philippines. She had a passion for working with the people at Samaritan's Purse and World Medical Missions. Geri also was a politically driven individual and was a republican candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives. In 1996, she won the Prestigious Jefferson Award, which is for outstanding volunteer in the community. Some people say that you can not save the world, but with God's help Geri Cranford tried her entire life.
On August 07, 1949 she was married to James Franklin Cranford, who survives of the home. Also surviving are daughters, Priscilla Crutchfield and Andy of Greensboro and Sharon Robbins and John of Thomasville. She leaves behind several special grandchildren; James Alexander Robbins, Zac Rickard, Jordan Rickard, Jane Howard Crutchfield, Brent Crutchfield, Carolyn Wasdell, and Alex Crutchfield. Geri also is survived by her twin sister, Dr. Josephine Foster of Stony Point, N.C.
A Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Anderson officiating with interment following at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
