A wake service was held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 beginning at 9:00 P.M. at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, North Dakota.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. a Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, North Dakota.
Burial followed at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, North Dakota.
Casket bearers were Zachary L. Poitra, Matthew B. Poitra, Gordon J. Machipiness, Raymond S. Martin Jr., Brad (Gourneau) Poitra Jr., and Walter R. Morin. Honorary beares were Henry "Mokey" Martin, Joseph Nadeau Sr., and Jeffrey W. Counts.
Marvin was born on June 17, 1949, the son of Tom and Rose (Kakenowash) Akewanzie in Belcourt, North Dakota.
He attended boarding school in Wahpeton when he was a young boy.
Marvin was a proud full-blood and was a direct decendent of Chiefs Mashapenos and Kakenowash.
He worked in the valley as a laborer and sometimes drove truck.
Marvin loved to be around his family and always went to see his friends. He was always good with sharing his jokes and his laughter with everyone. Marvin liked watching western movies and singing and listening to pow-wow music. He loved his animals and would dance with his dog every now and then.
Marvin was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His family would like to thank everyone for all of their love and support through this difficult time.
Marvin is survived by his sister, Theresa Akewanzie of Belcourt; many relatives, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josephine Benais and Stella Akewanzie LaFountain; and a nephew, Robert Akewanzie.
Arrangements were with Elick Funeral Home of Rolla, North Dakota.
