He was born on Dec. 27, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was proud to have been an Eagle Scout and lettered in many sports during his high school years.
Upon graduating from high school in June 1943, he immediately went into the US Army Air Force. He flew with the 8th Air Force, 92nd Bombardment Group from Podington, England.
When Dick returned he used his GI bill and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In August 1948, Dick married Jean Hartman and they lived in shared housing common to ex-GI's. They had 3 children and sadly, Jean was taken from Dick when she was only 31.
On July 22, 1964, he married Joan Marczykowski in Bettendorf, Iowa. Dick and Joan had 2 children together and they shared their lives for many years.
Dick's teaching and coaching years were in Moline, Sherrard, and New Windsor, IL. Upon retirement from the Moline School District, he taught for the Department of Defense schools. in Goeppingen, Germany.
Dick and Joan then retired to Green Valley, AZ. Dick was an avid golfer, swimmer, tennis player and was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and was a good humored, Godly man. He is greatly missed.
