A very large concourse of friends and acquaintances assembled at the Church of the Messiah yesterday afternoon to pay the last tribute of respect to the body of the late Asa W. Smith. The funeral cortege reached the church at 3 o;clock. The pall bearers were: Jos. P. Carr, R. A. Betts, G. L. Allen, G. M. Paschall, Budd Martin, Wm. Steigers, H. M. Beers, and R. M. Renick, jr. The funeral sermon was a very impressive one, delivered by the venerable Chancellor of Washington University, Dr. Wm. G. Elliott.
