Hilt was born November 4, 1935 to Gilbert and Harriet (Garland) Anderson in La Jara. He grew up in La Jara where his father had a farm. After high school, he went to he Navy for four years, and then transferred to the Reserves. While attending DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, he met his future wife, Carmen Acosta. They were married April 20, 1963 in Chicago.
Hilt was employed by the Department of Energy in Grand Junction. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Anderson, and two daughters, Nancy Anderson (Trevin Matlock) of California; Leanna (Donald) Powell of Clifton; four grandchildren; sister, Georgia Monter, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Services will be held Thursday, October 31 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ at 2949 U.S. Hwy. 50 in Grand Junction.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Sanford cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated to the American Heart Association.
