Mary Adeline Hosken

Cumberland, MD- Mary Adeline Hosken, 94, of Cumberland, died Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born August 15, 1918 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna (Swach) Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Conrad Hosken; and, two sisters, Clara Lee Day and JoAnna Williams.
Mrs. Hosken was a 1936 graduate of Allegany High School. She had attended Catherman's Business School. Mrs. Hosken had studied at the Peabody Conservatory for music studies, along with taking academic courses at the Johns Hopkins University. She had been a church secretary and organist in Baltimore. From 1963 until 1980, Mrs. Hosken was an administrative secretary for the Allegany County Board of Education. Mrs. Hosken was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church She had belonged to McKinley Chapter #12, O.E.S. for over 50 years. Survivors include her three children, Martha Ann Clarke, Towson, Nancy Hosken, Cumberland, and James Hosken, Frostburg; one sister, Margaret "Mickey" Farley, Huntingtown; four grandchildren, Marshall Clark, Stephen Clarke, Jennifer Ralston, and Jamie Hosken; and five great, grandchildren. Friends will be received at Grace Baptist Church, 211 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM.
The funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM in the church, with Pastor Keith Aguila, officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. Condolences to the family may be posted after Mrs. Hosken's obituary at www.upchurchfh.com
