Charlotte G. Fischer, 97, of Beardstown, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Heritage Health in Mt. Sterling.
She was born January 13, 1917 in Shobonier, Il, the daughter of George and Matilda Gable. She married Lawrence H. Foley on February 3, 1942 in Vandalia and he was killed in action during WW II in 1945. She later married William E. Fischer on December 2, 1953 in Vandalia and he preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by her children, Laurence Ross (Connie) Foley and Melody Foley-Glidden, all of Beardstown, Cindy (Ralph) Miller of Pekin and Steven Fischer of Amherst, MA; two grandchildren, Larry (Melissa) Foley of Gastonia, NC and Scott (Kristen) Foley of Normal; great-granddaughters, Sydney, Emma, Lauren Foley; three brothers, Cecil “Dick” Gable of Lincoln, Jerry (Phyllis) Gable of Vandalia and Wayne Gable of Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, Evelyn Remmert, Orville “Pete” Gable (surviving spouse, Norma of Shobonier), Virginia Wright and Ardis Hodson; and a son-in-law, Marvin Glidden.
Mrs. Fischer was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown and a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening and embroidering. She loved to spend time with her family and reading her Bible.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the church. A graveside committal service will be held 11:30 Thursday at Union Cemetery in Altamont, IL. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
