Juan Arebalos Jr.

March 18, 1957 — Oct. 31, 2013

Juan Arebalos Jr. peacefully passed away on Oct. 31, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Juan was born March 18, 1957, to Juan Sr. and Sofie Arebalos in Delano, Calif. Juan grew up in Pacoima, Calif., then his family moved to Dayton, where he graduated from Dayton High School and then Spokane Community College with a degree in art. In 1986, Juan married his wife, Leticia Ceballos. Together they have a daughter, Melody; and a son, Brandon Arebalos; both from Lakewood, Wash.

Juan was employed by Joint Base Lewis/McChord as a master sign maker. He took pride in his projects and had a strong work ethic. Ever since he was a young boy, Juan drew animated cartoons and designed his own action flip books to create motion to his characters. He made his own cartoon called "The Whale." He loved to draw Mickey Mouse, Casper, Felix and many other characters. When he was in high school he designed and painted the Bulldog mascot on the band's bass drum. He gradually began drawing people. He dabbled in sculpturing and worked in painting with oils. Juan was a collector of comic books, enjoyed classic movies and loved Star Trek, Bruce Lee and early Walt Disney. When he wasn't drawing, he was playing guitar. He had a love for music and would sing classic hits, especially the Beatles. Juan had a thirst for knowledge. Juan was a kind spirit and a loving man to all he encountered. He was humorous and always positive about life.

Juan is survived by his wife, Letty; daughter, Melody; son, Brandon, all of Lakewood, Wash.; his father, Juan Sr.; younger sister, Elizabeth (Tom) Arebalos-Jagelski of Dayton; older sister, Dee Ann Adams of Spokane; uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. Juan was preceded in death by his mother, Sofie Arebalos; grandparents, Mary and Hermino Juarez and Benino and Natividad Arebalos.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Nov. 8, 2013, at Saint Joseph's Church in Dayton.
