Frank joined a Union regiment in what became West Virginia. Because of bad conditions and under the influence of an older soldier, James W. Johnson, he was enticed to desert. The two set out to the mid-West ending up in Vigo Co., Indiana where they worked at a sawmill until they had the opportunity to join a cavalry regiment. Frank, under the name of John F. Dierker, and James under the name, James Brathwait, joined Company B of the 6th Indiana Cavalry. According to Frank's grandson Herman, he served as an aide to General Sherman until the March to the Sea when he was given other duties.

Apparently, Frank was still going by the name Dierker when he married Frances J. Beauchamp in 1866 as he and all his family were listed under Dierker. Later, he and his wife Frances crossed the border into Illinois and remarried under his correct name.

F. J. BORGMAN, AGED RESIDENT, CALLED

"F. J. Borgman, aged 80 years, prominent resident of Jonesboro, died yesterday afternoon at five o'clock at his home, 1230 South Flint Street. Neuralgia of the heart, with which he had suffered for several months, was the cause.

The deceased was born in West Virginia. He came to Jonesboro thirty years ago, moving here from Indiana. He operated a general mercantile store at Herman for many years and was successful in all his business ventures. For the past several years he has been in retirement.

He is survived by his wife and one son, Postmaster John Borgman of Jonesboro, and by two grandchildren, Miss Lola and Herman Borgman.

The deceased was a man of strong character and held the esteem of all who knew him. He was one of the county's best citizens.

The funeral will be held at four-thirty this afternoon at the residence, conducted by Rev. J. M. Hughey, pastor of the First Methodist Church. The remains will be shipped tonight to Clinton, Indiana, for interment. They will be accompanied there by Mrs. Borgman, John Borgman, Herman and Lola Borgman and Harlow Hays." - 'F. J.
