"Hon. John O'Fallon, a resident of what is known as O'Fallon Park, near Sulphur Springs, where he has lived for fifty-three years, with the exception of two years in St. Louis County, where he was born in 1831, was brought by his parents, Maj. Benjamin and Sophia (Lee) O'Fallon, to Jefferson County when he was but three years old. The parents settled near where he now resides, and here the father died in 1842. ... John's mother was a daughter of Dr. Lee, a native of France ... Mrs. O'Fallon died in San Francisco, Cal., about 1881, where she had lived for six years. Col. John O'Fallon, as he is usually called (which title he received during the war, having raised a regiment of Home Guards, of which he had command, although not in active service), was educated at St. Louis University for five years, and then spent one year at Shelbyville (Ky.) College. His early education was by a private tutor; he was reared on a farm, and has since had charge of his real estate, which consists of land and saw mills, flouring mills, etc. At one time he was the largest taxpayer of Jefferson county. ... He has figured quite prominently in the public affairs of the State ... Although a Southerner by birth, he was as strong Union man during the war, and did all in his power for its preservation." —"Central Missouri Counties Biographies: Biographies of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford, and Gasconade Counties, Missouri" (Goodspeed Pub., Chicago, 1888), p.937.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch, May 12, 1893, p.6. "Death of Col. John O'Fallon. Kimmswick, Mo., May 12.—Col. John O'Fallon died at his home near here suddenly of rupture about 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. His funeral will take place as soon as the wishes of his sisters, who live in California, can be learned."

Jefferson Democrat, May 18, 1893, p.3. "Col. John O'Fallon, a prominent figure in this county, died at his residence near Sulphur Springs, on the 11th inst., aged 62 years. He had not been strong for years, having suffered from asthma and other diseases, but the immediate cause of death was rupture. The Colonel was extremely egotistical and had not always managed his affairs with much prudence, but he had many good qualities, which always secured for him a host of friends. He will be missed. His remains were interred in the Kimmswick cemetery, and the public administrator has taken charge of his estate."
