Dell Claude Barber, 86, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died on May 18, 1999, at Pikes Peak Hospice following an extended illness.
He was born on September 20, 1912, in North Loup, Neb., the son of Glenn Douglas and Cora Winifred (Rogers) Barber. He married Doris Lenore Goodrich on July 20, 1935, in Scottsbluff, Neb. The couple lived in North Loup until 1948, when they moved to Parlin, Colo., and Colorado Springs with four of their children.
Over the years, Claude was a strong witness for his Lord and Savior. In recent years, he was a charter member and deacon of the Colorado Springs Seventh Day Baptist Church. Before this church developed, he was ordained a deacon of and served as an interim pastor at several Southern Baptist churches in the Colorado Springs area.
He was a retired home builder and carpenter, and in years past had been a rancher and mechanic.
In addition to his wife, Doris, survivors include one son, Charles of Colorado Springs; three daughters, Carley A. Hazelton of Garden City, Kan., Bonnie B. Watts of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dixie R. Boyer of Rush, Colo.; three brothers, Kenneth of Vallejo, Calif., Merton of Battle Creek, Mich., and Wayne of Napa, Calif.; three sisters, Iris Priestly of Florissant, Colo., Jeanne Dress of Omaha, Neb., and JoAnne Antoniuk of Englewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Theron D. Barber.
Funeral services were held on May 22, 1999, at the Memorial Gardens Chapel, with his grandson, Douglas Barber, and Pastor L. B. Lee and Rev. Jin Wha Hong officiating. Interment was at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
