Arthur "Potter Pete" Coplin, 84, of Martha Street passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:24 a.m. at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born June 8, 1929 at East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a son of the late Dory Clyde and Lena Pearl Coplin.

A lifetime area resident, he retired from the former Crucible Steel Company in Midland after 35 years of service. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country in Korea during the Korean War. A member of the American Legion #736 in Glenmoor, he also belonged to the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge #681, was a 32nd degree mason with the Scottish Rite of Steubenville, Ohio.

A graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1949, Pete was ELHS' biggest fan and supporter of Potter athletics. He operated the score board at Patterson Field from 1952 to 2004. He was honored by the Potter gridiron when the school named the new press box "The Pete Coplin Press Box". The Potter Basketball Rebound Club honors him as well by giving away a yearly honor dubbed the "Pete Coplin Spirit Award". A member of the East Liverpool High School Hall of Fame, he was affectionately referred to as the oldest water boy in America. Not only did Pete attend all of the Potters' games, he was seen every day at one of the team's practices.

Survivors include his wife, Lulu Mae Coplin, whom he married November 18, 1950, at home; along with his two sons, Thomas E. Coplin and his wife, Pattie of East Liverpool, and Jerry C. Coplin of East Liverpool and his fiancée, Pamela Brown.

There are four grandchildren, Thomas Dory Coplin and his wife, Tracey, Kelli Ann Beaver and her husband, Clint, Kasie Marie Murphy and her husband, David, and Lindsey Nicole Miller and her husband, Charlie; as well as three step-grandchildren, Greg Groves, Kelly Jo Bures, and Brian Groves and his wife, Sheila. He also leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition, there is one sister, Marilyn Magill; and one brother, Larry Edward "Catfish" Coplin.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patty Cline and Ida "Punky" Allison.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
