On February 28, 1856, G.W. Behn, with Nancy and her four children departed Georgia from Port of St. Marks for Port of New Orleans, making their way to the State of Texas. The ship's manifest reflects "Owner of Slaves, G.W. Behn."
From Port of New Orleans, they then departed on the Ship Louisiana on March 4, 1856 to Galveston, Texas. The ship's slave manifest reflects that Nancy is 37 years of age, with a height of 5 feet 6 inches, and children, Laura, age 7, with a height of 4 feet, Polly, age 4, with a height of 3 feet 6 inches, John, age 3, with a height of 3 feet 6 inches, and Fred, Infant. First Shipper/Owner (of slaves) is G.W. Behn of Thomas County, Georgia.
Nancy and her children do not seem to be enumerated on the 1870 U.S. Census. However, G.W. Behn is enumerated and reflects his residence is Grimes County. It can only be assumed that Nancy and her children are residing in that county also. Nancy does not appear in the U.S. Census until 1900, where she is residing in the household with her oldest son, John Mosley, his wife, Nancy, and their children.
Then in the 1900 U.S. Census, Nancy is found living in the home of her oldest son, John Mosley, and his family. She is approximately 81 years of age at this time (even though the Census reflects her age at 100 years). It is evident that she passed away sometime after 1900, the exact year and place is unknown.
